Homicide is unexpected and often results in traumatic injuries that leave behind blood and other infectious biohazards. After Law Enforcement, EMS, and the Coroner leave, family members, property managers and business owners are faced with the daunting task of cleaning up after the traumatic event. Having a compassionate, discreet, and locally available company to clean the scene helps grieving family or affected business move forward safely and efficiently.
The BioClean Team technicians are trained to arrive in discreet vehicles and clean out of sight of neighbors and onlookers. If the scene is in plain sight, we can set up large containment partitions and will do our best to be as discreet as the scene allows. The BioClean Team technicians will never speak with the media.
Homicide Cleanup - Legalities & Risk
Aside from the emotional and financial impact of the event to family, neighbors and employees, there is a significant health risk by allowing infectious biohazards such as blood or bodily fluids to remain on site. A property owner must get a traumatic accident or crime scene professionally remediated quickly to mitigate future health risks. Federal and state regulations deem all body fluids and tissue to be a biohazard requiring expert knowledge and special safety, handling and disposal procedures. Cleaning the scene, yourself is emotionally and physically unsafe. Asking an employee or vendor not certified in blood-borne pathogen handling is not legal and exposes your company to significant liability.
Homicide Cleanup - Cost
In most cases, property insurance will cover the crime scene cleanup, which means there usually will be no out-of-pocket costs for the property owner. The BioClean Team has worked extensively and exclusively with all major carriers and has a good working relationship with many insurance adjustors. Usually, insurance will cover the cost of our services as well as the replacement of any items that are contaminated and need to be removed and disposed of as regulated biohazard waste. We will file the claim on your behalf and take care of any submission documents including inventory of any biohazard-contaminated items. If you do not have insurance or are a property manager, we will gladly provide a free estimate and assist you in any way possible.
Homicide Cleanup - Methodology
The BioClean Team is certified as a Trauma Scene Waste Management Practitioner and licensed by California Department of Public Health to disinfect, clean, remove and dispose of all biohazards that are present. The cleanup is usually quite extensive and attention to detail is a must.
The BioClean Team technician is trained to look for the smallest element of biological remnants from top to bottom: ceiling, walls, furniture, personal items, light fixtures, switches, electrical sockets and even behind blinds and doors. Any exposure is considered a potential source of infection and must be properly decontaminated and cleaned.
There often are more hazards present than an initial cursory glance would show. The BioClean Team technicians are trained to identify, clean and decontaminate even the tiniest of areas.
For instance, a dime-sized spot on a carpet may mean a two to three-foot diameter blood stain seeped beneath the carpet pad and onto the subfloor or decking beneath. A splatter on the floor and clean door indicates that there will be splatter behind that door, as it may have been closed during the incident, and opened by EMS.
There will most likely be splatter on the trim, baseboards and inside electrical sockets. A small droplet of blood on a bed-frame or dresser indicates there may be seepage inside drawers or under the bed. Every area is inspected carefully with trained eyes, special illuminators and chemical testing.
Besides being an infectious agent, any unfound biohazards start to cause an odor over time. The source must be found, disinfected and then cleaned to be sure that the environment is safe, effectively remediated and ready for use.
